Head of Commercial - Planning & Highways

Location: South East London
Rate: £49.43 per hour PAYE
Contract: Temporary
Sector: Local Government

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Head of Commercial to join a London-based local authority on a senior interim basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced local government lawyer to take a leadership position covering planning, highways and commercial legal matters, while managing a multi-disciplinary legal team.

The Role

You will be responsible for:

Drafting, negotiating and completing S106, S38 and S278 agreements, as well as other planning and highways agreements and licences.
Providing senior legal advice across planning, highways and development matters.
Leading, managing and supervising a team of contract, planning and property lawyers.
Contributing to the Legal Services Management Team and wider corporate priorities.
Attending and advising at Planning Committee and other Council committees.
Delivering training to elected members.
Deputising for the Monitoring Officer, including attending high-level meetings.
Providing pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice to senior officers and elected members.

About You

We are looking for a senior legal professional with strong local government planning and highways experience.

You should have substantial experience dealing with S106, S38 and S278 agreements, alongside the ability to advise senior stakeholders on complex planning, highways and development matters.

Experience of leading and managing legal teams is essential, as is the confidence to operate at senior management and committee level.
