Lead a high-performing legal team and shape the future of a nationally recognised Court of Protection practice.
Are you a senior legal professional with leadership experience and a passion for delivering operational excellence and positive client outcomes? We’re looking for a Head of Department (HoD) to oversee and drive performance across our Property & Affairs (P&A) Court of Protection team.
This is a high-impact role at the heart of our Public Law practice area, responsible for strategy, compliance, people development, and service delivery.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead a mixed-skilled team (solicitors, legal executives, paralegals) to deliver outstanding client care and technical excellence.
*
Own and deliver departmental KPIs including revenue, chargeable time, case volumes and quality.
*
Shape and implement operational strategy in collaboration with the Practice Area Director.
*
Drive business development initiatives, build strategic external partnerships, and develop the team's public profile.
*
Ensure compliance with all regulatory obligations and internal quality standards.
*
Embed a strong coaching and performance management culture across the department.
*
Collaborate with internal stakeholders including Finance, HR, L&D, Marketing, and Compliance.
What We’re Looking For:
*
A qualified Solicitor or CILEX with 7+ years PQE, ideally with expertise in Court of Protection or a related area.
*
Proven experience in team leadership and performance management in a legal setting.
*
Commercially savvy with experience of delivering to financial targets.
*
Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance obligations (including Lexcel and GDPR).
*
Excellent interpersonal, communication and strategic planning skills.
*
A visible leader with the ability to inspire, challenge and develop people.
