Location: Reading

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent
Salary: MPS/UPS + TLR (depending on experience)
Are you a dynamic and inspiring Head of English ready to lead a thriving department in Reading? We are seeking a committed and ambitious leader to drive excellence in English teaching and learning across Key Stages 4 and 5 from January 2026.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced English Teacher or existing Head of English who is passionate about raising standards, developing curriculum innovation, and nurturing a love of literature and language among students.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the English department, inspiring staff to deliver high-quality teaching and learning
Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and development across KS4 and KS5
Monitor and analyse student progress, implementing effective strategies to raise attainment
Support and coach colleagues to ensure outstanding classroom practice
Promote a positive culture of reading, writing, and communication across the school
Collaborate with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school improvement initiativesPerson Specification:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
Proven success in teaching English at KS4 and KS5
Experience of leading or supporting within a department
Strong understanding of current curriculum and assessment requirements
Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
