Job Description
Seeking a proactive Head of Finance to lead the finance function of a growing engineering business near Stansted. Reporting directly to senior management, you will take ownership of financial activities, ensure compliance, and provide clear, accurate reporting to support decision-making.
You will manage one team member and will drive process improvement in a dynamic SME environment.
Role: Head of Finance
Location: Near Stansted, Essex
Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 per annum (DOE)
Hours: Week 1: Mon-Thurs 07:30-17:00, Fri 07:30-13:30
Week 2: Mon-Thurs only, 07:30-17:00
Average of 39 hours per week

Main Responsibilities:
Prepare and present management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reporting.
Oversee sales and purchase ledger, invoices, and statements.
Perform bank reconciliations and maintain financial controls.
Ensure compliance with statutory requirements, including VAT, PAYE, and HMRC reporting.
Manage relationships with auditors, banks, and external advisors.
Drive efficiency improvements in systems and processes.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Proven experience in a finance leadership role, ideally within an SME or engineering environment.
Proficient in Sage 200
Knowledge of Aerotrac software would be advantageous.
Strong background in management accounts, cash flow, and forecasting.
Hands-on, detail-oriented, and confident in leading a small team.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly.
