Job Description

An established and highly successful building-services contractor is looking to appoint an experienced Head of Health & Safety to lead the health & safety deparment across the business. This is a senior leadership position within a growing MEP contractor delivering major construction projects across London and the UK. You will take responsibility for the company’s health, safety and environmental strategy, leading a regional HSE team and working closely with the senior leadership, operational, project and supply-chain teams.

The successful candidate will have senior HSE leadership experience within construction and a strong working knowledge of CDM Regulations, UK health and safety legislation, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.

As Head of Health & Safety & Environment, you will:

  * Provide strategic leadership and direction for the company’s Health, Safety and Environmental function

  * Lead, manage and develop HSE Managers, Advisors and sustainability professionals across multiple projects and regions

  * Establish clear HSE standards, priorities, responsibilities and performance expectations

  * Promote a positive, proactive and accountable safety culture throughout the business

  * Maintain and continually improve company HSE policies, procedures and management systems

  * Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations, UK legislation, regulatory obligations and client requirements

  * Maintain alignment with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management system

  * Lead internal and external HSE audits, inspections and assurance programmes

  * Oversee incident investigations, root-cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions

  * Monitor audit findings, incidents and recurring risks to identify improvement opportunities

  * Support project mobilisation, pre-construction planning and live project delivery

  * Work closely with project teams and subcontractors to ensure consistent HSE standards

  * Develop environmental and sustainability targets with the senior leadership team

  * Monitor HSE performance, KPIs and trends, presenting actionable reports to senior management

  * Lead safety workshops, behavioural campaigns and targeted improvement programmes

  * Represent the business during client meetings, external audits and industry forums

  * Coach and mentor project managers, site teams, supervisors and HSE professionals

Health & Safety desirable experience

  * Chartered Membership of IOSH – CMIOSH

  * ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor qualification

  * IEMA membership

  * NEBOSH Environmental Management Certificate or equivalent

  * Experience delivering sustainability or ESG initiatives

  * Previous responsibility for improving safety culture across a large organisation

  * Familiarity with digital construction and HSE reporting platforms
