Job Overview
This role will suit an experienced audit professional with strong leadership capability and deep knowledge of financial services regulation. You will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive, risk-based internal audit programme, providing assurance across both operational and technology domains, and partnering closely with senior leadership to strengthen governance and control frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and execution of a risk-based internal audit plan, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and regulatory requirements.
* Build and maintain trusted relationships with senior management and key governance committees, acting as a strategic advisor on control, risk, and compliance matters.
* Manage the full audit lifecycle including planning, fieldwork, reporting, and follow-up, while ensuring quality and timeliness of delivery.
* Oversee both operational and IT audit coverage, including integrated reviews across business and technology processes.
* Communicate key findings and recommendations clearly and constructively to stakeholders at all levels, including Audit Committee reporting.
* Support the coordination of service organisation assurance reporting (AAF, ISAE 3402, SOC1, SOC2) and assist with external client and auditor engagements.
* Mentor and develop the internal audit team, driving continuous improvement and professional growth.
* Evaluate the impact of emerging risks, new regulations, and organisational changes on the control environment, ensuring the audit plan remains current and risk-aligned.
Person Specification
* Minimum 10 years’ experience in internal audit, advisory, or external audit within financial services.
* Strong technical understanding of UK regulatory requirements (FCA, GDPR, CASS) and internal audit standards (IIA).
* Demonstrated experience leading integrated audits across operational and IT areas.
* Proven background issuing service organisation reports (AAF, ISAE 3402, SOC1, SOC2).
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, including engagement at Executive and Audit Committee levels.
* Collaborative leadership style with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Relevant professional qualification such as CIA, CISA, ACA, or ACCA.
* Flexibility to travel up to 20% of working time.
