Job Description

Head of Procurement Nottingham (Hybrid working) Upto £80,000 + Bens Our client is a leading independent wholesale entering an ambitious period of multi business growth. This Group-level Head of Procurement role exists to drive a unified procurement and supply chain strategy across two divisions. You will take full ownership of procurement, sourcing, supply, stock management, and compliance across the Group, with responsibility for delivering value, maintaining high service levels, and enabling margin growth. This includes ensuring strong supplier partnerships, robust processes, and operational visibility that supports scale, speed, and sustainability. Responsibilities: * Leadership, management & accountability of a small team of three - taking full ownership of results, and make sure everyone delivers what they’re responsible for. Setting clear goals, expectations, and performance indicators across the Procurement team * Building and coaching a high-performing team with strong execution capability and continuous improvement mindset * Building strong relationships with suppliers to get the best value, reliability, and performance for the business. Ensuring reliable supply and stock availability across both businesses to meet customer and service demands * Overseeing demand planning, safety stock, and inventory holding strategies to avoid overstock and stock-outs * Integrating and optimising supply and inventory systems to drive automation and visibility * Building group-level stock discipline and process ownership in line with financial and operational targets * Developing and implementing a group-wide sourcing strategy that leverages scale, delivers cost savings, and ensures quality and ethical standards * Leading contract negotiations with key suppliers and ensuring favourable terms and service level adherence * Championing supplier relationship management and performance tracking at Group level * Building long-term partnerships (not just suppliers) that help to grow, reduce risk, and stay ahead of competitors * Compliance and Risk Governance – ensuring all procurement and supply activities are fully compliant with legal, regulatory, and quality standards across both businesses * Maintaining and owning procurement policies, vendor onboarding protocols, and documentation in line with external and internal audit standards * Anticipating and managing supply risks, including regulatory change, product shortages, or ESG non conformance * Aligning the procurement strategy with the business plan and 2027/2032 growth milestones * Driving innovation through digital procurement, eProcurement, and data-led decision-making * A key stakeholder in the integration of the new Group IT systems, using technology to automate and scale procurement processes * Contributing to budgeting, ESG planning, and long-term transformation at Group level * Cross-Business Collaboration – as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with Sales, Ops, ESG, Finance, and Tech to ensure procurement enables commercial goals * Creating cross-functional planning rhythms and accountability that support joined-up execution across the Group. The ideal candidate: Proven ability to lead a high-performing team, drive results, and hold self and others accountable across cost, service, quality, and process adherence Strong track record of negotiating and managing supplier performance, ensuring value, reliability, and resilience in the supply chain Experience building long-term partnerships (e.g. manufacturers, innovation partners, JV collaborators) that deliver competitive and strategic advantage Commercially astute in building and managing product ranges that are profitable, operationally efficient, and aligned with customer needs Skilled in building structured procurement processes, driving standardisation, cost control, and risk mitigation across sourcing, onboarding, and contract management Strong understanding of gross margin, landed cost, and total cost of ownership. Able to align procurement decisions with overall business performance targets Confident handling large datasets, using insights to improve supplier terms, pricing strategies, and stock levels Strong MSO skills – Advanced Excel is essential System Literacy: Comfortable working within ERP systems, procurement tools, and digital approval workflows Please do get in touch if you would like to hear more
