We are working with a well-regarded Secondary School in Southend-on-Sea, rated GOOD by Ofsted, that is seeking a dedicated and inspirational Head of Science with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). The school is committed to delivering high-quality Science education, encouraging curiosity, critical thinking and practical investigation while supporting students to achieve excellent outcomes across Key Stages 3 and 4.
Job Overview:
This school caters for students aged 11-16.
Full-time, Monday - Friday, Head of Science role.
Lead and manage the Science department, promoting high-quality teaching and learning across KS3 and KS4.
Inspire, support and develop members of the Science team through effective leadership, coaching and collaboration.
Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated Science lessons across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
Monitor student progress and departmental performance, implementing strategies to raise attainment and close achievement gaps.
Oversee curriculum planning, assessment and intervention programmes to ensure strong student outcomes.
Create a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages students to develop their scientific knowledge and confidence.
Work closely with senior leaders to contribute to whole-school improvement priorities and enrichment opportunities.
Promote practical investigation and develop students' analytical, problem-solving and critical-thinking skill.What we're looking for:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
A degree in Science or a related subject.
Experience teaching Science at secondary level across KS3-KS4.
Previous leadership experience or the ambition and capability to lead a Science department.
Strong subject knowledge across the sciences, with the ability to inspire and motivate learners.
Excellent classroom management, organisational and leadership skills.
Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment and strategies to improve student outcomes.
A proactive, positive and collaborative approach to leadership and teaching.
Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
