Head of Social Sciences and Vocational Subjects – Wandsworth
Head of Social Sciences - September
Head of Social Sciences - Permenant
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Head of Social Sciences and Vocational Subjects to lead a committed team at a secondary school in Wandsworth. This is a key leadership role, responsible for shaping curriculum delivery, raising standards, and driving outcomes across a diverse and expanding faculty that includes subjects such as Sociology, Psychology, Criminology, Health & Social Care, and Business Studies.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide strategic and operational leadership across the Social Sciences and Vocational faculty.
*
Ensure high-quality teaching and learning across all key stages, with a focus on KS4 and KS5.
*
Line manage subject leads and support staff development through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
*
Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and data tracking to monitor progress and raise attainment.
*
Promote a culture of academic rigour, aspiration, and inclusive practice across all vocational and academic pathways.
*
Contribute to whole-school improvement as part of the extended leadership team.
*
Lead on subject-specific CPD, exam board developments, and quality assurance processes.
Requirements:
*
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a strong academic background in a relevant subject.
*
Experience teaching at KS4 and KS5, ideally across more than one subject within the faculty.
*
Previous middle leadership experience, such as Head of Department or Key Stage Coordinator.
*
Proven ability to lead teams, manage change, and deliver strong outcomes.
*
A deep understanding of the current curriculum and assessment frameworks for both academic and vocational qualifications.
*
Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and communication skills.
*
A commitment to safeguarding and the wellbeing of all students.
