The Role
As Health and Safety Manager (Construction / Nuclear), you will be the key focal point for all H&S aspects across a major programme portfolio on a naval base, ensuring projects operate in full compliance with statutory and local governance. This is a site-based role (expected 3 days per week on site) supporting the Joint Project Team and interfacing closely with Principal Contractors, Principal Designers, facility operators and wider site operations.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading compliance with CDM Regulations 2015, MoD governance and best practice
Advising senior leadership, project managers and site teams on H&S strategy and decisions
Reviewing contractor/designer H&S documentation, including RAMS for high-risk activities
Supporting hazard identification and implementation of effective risk controls
Delivering safety communications, workshops and training to build positive safety culture
Conducting inspections and audits; managing non-conformities through to close-out
Supporting incident/near-miss investigation, root cause analysis and reporting
Acting as the point of contact for external audits and H&S queries
Coordinating H&S across interfaces with operational and nuclear-related functionsyou will have the following qualifications & experience
UK National with and eligible for SC Clearance
Proven H&S leadership within construction/civil engineering/marine/defence environments
Extensive working knowledge of CDM 2015 and relevant statutory frameworks
Recognised H&S qualification (e.g., NEBOSH) and strong technical credibility
Desirable: membership of a professional body (e.g., IOSH/IIRSM)
Proven ability to influence stakeholders, chair meetings, and manage competing priorities
Desirable: experience within a nuclear regulated or similarly highly regulated environment
