Role Overview
To support the management and delivery of an effective Corporate Health and Safety service, ensuring compliance with statutory responsibilities and the provision of safe working environments for employees, clients, and others affected by the organisation's operations across retail, distribution, and office locations.
This role is based in the South and covers the South of England and South Wales. Occasional travel to the main head office in Scotland will be required.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and review health and safety systems, procedures, and practices.
Ensure compliance with new and existing legislation, Codes of Practice, and guidance through regular procedural updates.
Monitor the application of policies and plans, including conducting and analysing accident and incident investigations, and promoting continual improvement.
Assist in the development of audit and risk management procedures relevant to the full range of organisational activities and properties.
Conduct safety audits and validate audit reports to ensure robust health and safety practices.
Provide expert advice and support to directors, senior managers, and employees on all health and safety matters, including environmental issues where appropriate.
Review and assess the health and safety performance of colleagues across different departments.
Represent the Health and Safety function at management meetings and with external bodies, as directed.
Identify and assess health and safety training needs in consultation with departments and develop/deliver relevant training courses.
Foster strong working relationships with other senior personnel to maintain a cohesive approach to corporate governance and operational execution.
Work collaboratively with senior leadership to ensure effective implementation of policies and optimal resource allocation.
Undertake additional duties that align with the objectives of the Health & Safety Department.
Carry out risk assessments and prepare written safe systems of work.
Liaise with enforcement agencies and external compliance teams as required.
Support other health and safety initiatives across the wider group of organisations as needed.
Role Requirements
Flexibility in working hours.
Willingness and ability to travel across the assigned region.
Occasional overnight stays, depending on workload.
Physical fitness is essential due to the nature of tasks (e.g., ladder climbing).
Minimum of one year in a full-time health and safety role post-qualification.
