Job Description

Cool Cats Air Conditioning Services Ltd is expanding its Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning division to support installation projects, ventilation upgrades, AHU servicing and multi-site PPM contracts nationwide UK. We are seeking an experienced HVAC Engineer with a minimum of 2 years' proven experience across HVAC, AC/refrigeration, ventilation, AHUs or mechanical heating systems. A valid DBS, clean full UK driving licence, Right to Work in the UK, F-Gas Category 1 certification, and an ECS/CSCS/Skills Card are mandatory for this role. About the Role A technically diverse role covering installation, diagnostics, commissioning, maintenance and compliance across domestic, commercial and public-sector environments. Heating Installation, commissioning and servicing of air source heat pumps, including correct setup of primary/secondary circuits, flow rates, system balancing, and controller configuration (training available where required) Work on heating distribution components such as circulation pumps, buffer vessels, expansion systems, 3-port and zone valves, thermostats, smart controls, flow sensors and safety devices. Carry out heating pipework installation, including routing, insulation, brazing/soldering and pressure testing. Diagnose faults across electrical, control and hydraulic heating circuits, including low flow conditions, sensor failures, cavitation, pump faults, blending valve issues and incorrect system pressures. Perform full commissioning of heating systems including system purging, inhibitor dosing, flushing, hydraulic balancing, temperature verification and documentation. Conduct system upgrades and remedial works, including cylinder replacements, plate heat exchanger servicing, control upgrades and pump optimisation. Provide client handover, system demonstrations and guidance on efficiency optimisation and correct use. Ventilation Installation and commissioning mechanical ventilation systems including MVHR, MEV, dMEV, HRUs, commercial extract systems and ducted supply/extract networks. Read, interpret and implement ductwork specifications, layout drawings, grille schedules, pressure drop requirements and airflow balancing data. Perform ductwork installation including rigid duct, spiral, flexi-duct, insulated duct, fire-rated duct sections and airtightness sealing to industry standards. Commission MVHR and extract systems, including fan speed setup, filter loading checks, boost mode testing, humidity/CO₂ sensor setup and control strategy configuration. Conduct airflow tests using anemometers, balometers or vane meters to verify design flow rates and ensure compliance with Part F and relevant ventilation standards. Diagnose ventilation system issues including blockages, incorrect ducting, fan failures, backdraft dampers, noise/vibration faults, poor extraction rates and control malfunction. Complete PPM servicing including filter replacement, grille cleaning, drain maintenance, heat exchanger inspection, motor checks, fan cleaning and verification of system operation. Install and maintain low-noise and vibration-controlled systems, ensuring compliance with acoustic requirements where applicable. Support integration of ventilation systems with air source heat pumps and AC systems for whole-property climate strategies. Air Conditioning Installation and commissioning of single-split, multi-split, cassette, ducted, floor-mounted, ceiling-suspended, wall-mounted and concealed air conditioning systems. Installation, commissioning and servicing of VRF/VRV systems (2-pipe and 3-pipe), including: * * Refnet configurations * Branch controllers * Network addressing * Refrigerant volume calculations * System optimisation and commissioning sequences Competent installation of refrigerant components including brazing, flare joints, insulation standards, condensate management and pressure/leak testing. Diagnostics including electrical faults, PCB failures, communication errors, sensor faults, inverter/compressor issues and refrigerant circuit anomalies. Full F-Gas compliance including leak testing, evacuation, refrigerant charging and environmental logbook management. PPM servicing including coil cleaning, drain verification, capacitor checks, airflow testing, torque checks, filter changes and operational efficiency checks. TM44 experience including system performance evaluations, asset data capture and compliance documentation. Strong experience with Mitsubishi Electric, Samsung, Daikin, Panasonic, LG and Fujitsu systems is desirable. Air Handling Units (AHUs) Carry out full servicing, inspection and maintenance of commercial Air Handling Units, including supply, extract, twin-fan, packaged, heat recovery and inline units across a range of building types. Inspect, replace and maintain filtration systems including G3–G4, F7–F9, HEPA, carbon filters and pre-filter assemblies, ensuring correct fitting, sealing and airflow performance. Maintain and adjust mechanical drive components such as belt tensioning, pulley alignment, bearing lubrication, motor mount inspection and fan wheel checks for balance and wear. Diagnose and repair faults involving fan motors, EC/AC drives, inverters, contactors, relays, capacitors, damper actuators and control wiring issues. Inspect, clean and maintain heating and cooling coils, condensate trays, drain lines and heat exchanger sections, including coil chemical cleaning, fin straightening and corrosion checks. Inspect and test dampers, fire dampers, smoke dampers and motorised actuators, ensuring correct travel, response and linkage alignment in accordance with safety and compliance requirements. Conduct airflow measurement and system balancing across supply and extract systems using anemometers, balometers and differential pressure tools. Identify and resolve issues such as airflow restrictions, excessive pressure drops, blocked filters, system imbalance, duct leakage, motor inefficiencies and fan performance faults. Perform PPM tasks in line with SFG20 maintenance schedules, including cleanliness checks, torque testing, vibration inspection, electrical safety checks and noise monitoring. Support refurbishment activities including motor upgrades, control panel replacements, actuator installations, damper repairs, re-insulation works, coil replacements and fan retrofits. Ensure compliance with ventilation hygiene standards, asset identification requirements and accurate documentation for contract reporting and auditing. Administrative, Compliance & Operational Responsibilities Cloud-Based Data & Reporting Maintain accurate commissioning data, asset information, photos and job records using the company’s cloud-based field management system. Complete digital job summaries, compliance documentation and reports. Tender, Contract & Policy Support Provide technical input for tender reviews, contract mobilisation and operational improvements. Assist with developing and reviewing company procedures, policies and method statements. Material Take-Off & Job Preparation Conduct material take-offs from drawings, surveys and specifications. Liaise with procurement to ensure correct materials and equipment are sourced. Mentoring & Development Support apprentices and junior engineers with technical guidance and best practice. Promote high standards of safety, quality and professionalism.
