Job Description
Heavy Vehicle Fitter – Defence Sector
Location: Stockport
Pay Rates: £19.22/hour (Days) | £25.56/hour (Nights)
Join a well-established defence manufacturer at the forefront of military vehicle production. They’re looking for an experienced Heavy Vehicle Fitter to support the final build and assembly of armoured wheeled vehicles, working as part of a high-performing production team.
Key Duties
Assemble and fit armoured vehicles and sub-systems to specification
Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults
Interpret engineering drawings, SOPs, and technical documentation
Use diagnostic software for installation and fault-finding
Order parts/tools and record work accurately in SAP
Liaise across teams to support workflow and mentor junior staff
Maintain a safe, compliant workspace in line with 5S standards
Be willing to travel for training (including occasional overseas)
What We’re Looking For
City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a relevant trade
Experience in heavy vehicle fitting – ideally defence, rail, aerospace, or specialist/military vehicles
Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical systems
Confident interpreting drawings and technical standards
Familiarity with quality and safety systems
Clear communicator with good organisational skills
