HGV Mechanic / Plant Technician – Specialist Ground Support Equipment
East Midlands Airport
£39,000 – £43,000 per annum + overtime + call-out rota
Monday–Friday, 08:00–16:00 (with call-out rota)
Are you an experienced HGV Mechanic looking for something more than the same workshop routine? This is your chance to take your skills airside at East Midlands Airport, working on specialist Ground Support Equipment (GSE) that keeps aircraft moving and operations running smoothly.
This isn’t your average mechanic role — you’ll be part of a tight-knit, expert team, tackling varied and challenging work on unique vehicles and machinery you won’t see anywhere else.
HGV Mechanic/ Plant Technician: What You’ll Be Doing
Diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of HGVs, plant, and specialist GSE.
Carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections to keep the fleet safe and operational.
Performing brake and smoke tests, identifying defects, and reporting to the Workshop Supervisor.
Maintaining accurate service records and job cards.
Supporting the wider engineering team with ad-hoc repairs and urgent breakdowns.
Ensuring safety compliance at all times and reporting defective tools/equipment.
HGV Mechanic / Plant Technician What We’re Looking For
Level 3 City & Guilds / NVQ in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent).
At least 3 years’ hands-on experience with HGVs, Plant, or GSE.
GSE experience advantageous but not essential — full training provided.
Heavy Goods Licence desirable.
HGV Mechanic / Plant Technician What’s On Offer
Salary: £39,000 rising to £43,000 after securing BHX & EMA airside passes and joining the call-out rota.
Call-out rota (£80 per call-out) + overtime opportunities.
28 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays.
Company pension.
