Job Description
HGV Mechanic (Mobile)
Location: Burton-on-Trent
Salary: £19.00 – £22.00 per hour
OTE: £70,000 – £80,000 per year
Hours: Monday to Friday, alternating shifts (Week 1: 6:00am – 2:30pm | Week 2: 1:30pm – 9:30pm)
On-Call: Would only ever be on the week of early shifts. 1 in 4 or 5 weeks
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Mobile HGV Mechanic to join a busy and well-established commercial vehicle operation. This role is split between depot-based work and mobile call-outs, offering excellent earning potential through overtime, on-call payments, and additional rates.
The Role
Service, maintain, and repair a wide range of HGVs and associated equipment
Carry out diagnostics, inspections, and fault finding to industry standards
Attend roadside breakdowns and complete on-site repairs in a safe and timely manner
Work both independently and as part of a team to ensure vehicles are back on the road quickly
Follow all health and safety procedures and maintain accurate service records
Pay & On-Call Structure
Callouts: Paid at double time for the first hour (equivalent to 4x hourly rate), then time and a half for additional hours
On-call retainer: £240 per month (payable if all callouts are attended)
Alternating shifts with a fair on-call rota
Requirements
Time-served HGV Technician or equivalent qualification (City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 preferred)
Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
Experience with both depot-based and mobile roadside repairs
Full UK driving licence (HGV licence desirable)
Flexibility to cover on-call rota and occasional overtime
