Job Description
Our client is an independent commercial vehicle repair company in Market Weighton.
Their technicians work from 8:00am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday and occasional Saturday mornings.
Saturday mornings are either presenting vehicles for MOT in their on-site ATF or tachograph calibrations.
Easy work, little stress, finished by lunchtime.
This employer would offer any new starter the opportunity for tacho training which usually brings a small uplift in their rate of pay.
This is an excellent opportunity for and experienced HGV Technician / HGV Fitter / HGV Mechanic who is looking for a work-life balance.
Core Responsibilities
* Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
* Carrying out routine servicing and preventive maintenance.
* Diagnosing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
* Repairing or replacing defective parts (e.g., brakes, steering, suspension, engines, gearboxes).
* Ensuring vehicles meet manufacturer specifications.
* Inspections & Compliance
* Performing regular vehicle inspections in line with DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency) or local transport authority regulations.
* Conducting MOT (Ministry of Transport) preparations and inspections.
* Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
* Diagnostics & Technical Work
* Using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve faults.
* Updating software and electronic systems in modern HGVs.
* Testing vehicle systems after repairs to confirm functionality.
* Record Keeping & Documentation
* Maintaining service records and repair logs.
* Completing job cards and inspection reports.
* Reporting any recurring or serious defects to management.
* Workshop & Field Support
* Working in a workshop setting or providing roadside assistance.
* Carrying out emergency repairs to minimise downtime.
* Collaborating with drivers, fleet managers, and other technicians.
* Continuous Improvement
* Staying updated with new vehicle technologies (hybrid/electric HGVs).
* Following manufacturer bulletins and technical updates.
* Maintaining professional qualifications and certifications.
