HGV Technician Supervisor Location: Bedford
Salary: £50,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday – Day Shift
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent
 
Overview We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled HGV Technician Supervisor to lead and support our workshop team in Bedford. This role combines hands-on technical work with daily supervision, ensuring the efficient servicing, repair, and maintenance of our HGV fleet. The ideal candidate will have strong diagnostic abilities, excellent leadership skills, and deep knowledge of HGV maintenance standards and DVSA compliance.
 Key Responsibilities Workshop Supervision
Lead, supervise, and support a team of HGV technicians and apprentices.
Allocate workload, plan daily tasks, and prioritise urgent repairs.
Provide hands-on assistance with complex diagnostics, repairs, and inspections.
Ensure workshop productivity, workflow efficiency, and high-quality workmanship.HGV Maintenance & Repairs
Carry out servicing, MOT preparation, diagnostics, and mechanical repairs on HGVs.
Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults.
Ensure all work meets DVSA standards and company specifications.
Complete maintenance documentation accurately and on time.Compliance & Safety
Uphold all DVSA, Operator Licence, and safety requirements.
Conduct quality checks on completed work and ensure PMI schedules are followed.
Maintain accurate maintenance, inspection, and service records.
Promote and enforce high health & safety standards within the workshop.Team Development
Train, coach, and mentor technicians to improve skills and performance.
Support onboarding and upskilling of apprentices and new starters.
Conduct toolbox talks, performance discussions, and technical guidance.Communication & Coordination
Liaise with the Transport Manager, Workshop Manager, and parts suppliers.
Report workshop performance issues, delays, and vehicle downtime.
Assist with parts ordering and ensure spare parts availability.Requirements Essential:
Qualified HGV Technician (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
Previous experience as a Workshop Supervisor, Lead Technician, or Senior HGV Fitter.
Strong understanding of HGV diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
Solid knowledge of DVSA standards, compliance, and Operator Licence requirements.
Confident leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
Full UK driving licence (HGV Class 1 or 2 preferred).Desirable:
IRTEC accreditation or equivalent.
Experience supervising a busy HGV workshop environment.
Familiarity with fleet or workshop management systems.What We Offer
