Job Description

Main Purpose The HLTA – Pastoral Lead plays a pivotal role in supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC). The postholder will promote emotional regulation, positive behaviour, and engagement with learning across designated year groups. Key Responsibilities * Support daily routines, including morning transitions and emotional check-ins. * Implement and model strategies that create a calm, positive classroom environment. * Promote pupil independence, emotional resilience, and readiness to learn. * Monitor attendance, engagement, and behaviour, responding proactively to emerging issues. * Support pupils accessing enhanced or bespoke provision, facilitating smooth reintegration into the classroom. * Lead and model effective support strategies for Teaching Assistants (TAs). * Coordinate daily TA deployment, adapting to pupils’ changing needs. * Provide mentoring, guidance, and training to support staff.. * Support the delivery of teaching and learning through in-class support and small group/1:1 interventions. * Help maintain classroom structure and consistency (visual timetables, emotional check-ins, “now and next” strategies). * Promote high expectations for all pupils, supporting progress toward EHCP targets. * Record and report on pupil progress, contributing to reviews and planning meetings. * Work collaboratively with professionals such as therapists, counsellors, and external agencies. * Attend multi-agency meetings and contribute to support plan reviews. * Conduct regular checks of learning environments to ensure safety. * Support safe movement of pupils during transitions and unstructured times. * Experience working with children with SEMH and/or ASC needs. * Proven ability to support and lead children and young people effectively. * Strong understanding of trauma-informed and attachment-aware practices
