Job Description

Highways Technician   Rate: £30-£40hr depending on experience Contract Type: Outside IR35 Hours: 37.5 hours per week Contract Length: 3 months minimum - likely to extend to 6 months or longer Location: Cambridge (office attendance required 2-3 days per week) Start Date: Mid-August 2025   We are seeking an experienced Highways Technician with a strong background in transport and highways engineering to join our team on a contract basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of highways and active travel projects, with flexibility and long-term potential.   Key Responsibilities: ·Preparation and review of highways and transport technical designs ·Detailed design and drafting for Section 278 and Section 38 schemes ·Application and interpretation of DMRB standards and LTN 1/20 guidance (cycling infrastructure design) ·Producing and checking technical drawings, layouts, and CAD models ·Supporting project managers and senior engineers in the delivery of highways schemes from concept through to construction ·Liaising with local authorities, stakeholders, and design teams Essential Skills & Experience: ·Significant experience working as a Highways Technician in the UK ·Strong knowledge of highways design standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets, and LTN 1/20 ·Proven track record delivering s.278 and s.38 schemes ·Proficiency in AutoCAD and related highways design software ·Understanding of active travel, cycling schemes, and sustainable transport design ·Excellent attention to detail and ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Why Join Us? ·Competitive hourly rate with outside IR35 status ·Flexible working model with part-office attendance ·Involvement in forward-thinking, high-profile infrastructure projects ·Potential for long-term contract extensions   If you feel that you are right for this role technically, but the salary, location or seniority does not suit you specifically then please still feel free to send us your CV.
