Global Histories, Critical Minds: Teacher of History - Portsmouth (Sept 2025)
Are you a forward-thinking Teacher of History who can seamlessly weave global narratives into the curriculum, helping students understand the complexities of our interconnected world? Our Outstanding mixed secondary school in Portsmouth is looking for an innovative and committed History teacher to start in September 2025.
We believe that understanding global history is paramount for fostering informed and engaged citizens. This role requires you to deliver dynamic and thought-provoking lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5, exploring a breadth of historical periods and cultures, challenging Eurocentric narratives, and prompting students to draw connections between past events and contemporary global challenges. You will empower students to think critically about historical injustice, conflict, and societal change, fostering empathy and encouraging them to be active participants in shaping a better future. If you are passionate about a truly diverse and globally-minded history curriculum, we want to hear from you.
The ideal candidate will:
* Possess a broad and deep knowledge of both British and global history, demonstrating a commitment to decolonising the curriculum where appropriate.
* Be skilled at facilitating debates and discussions on complex and sometimes controversial historical topics in a respectful and academically rigorous manner.
* Be adept at using a wide range of digital resources and multimedia to bring global histories to life in the classroom.
* Actively seek out opportunities for cross-curricular collaboration, particularly with subjects like Geography, Religious Studies, and Politics.
* Demonstrate a commitment to student-led inquiry and project-based learning, encouraging independent research into diverse historical themes.
