Belmont Recruitment are currently seeking an experienced Homelessness Prevention Officer to join a North East Council’s Housing Service Team on a temporary basis. This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week (Mon – Fri).
The post requires a flexible approach, with occasional evening and weekend work to ensure service accessibility.
About the Role
As a Homelessness Prevention Officer, you will provide timely and appropriate housing advice and support to vulnerable households in order to prevent or alleviate homelessness. You will also be responsible for investigating homelessness applications in line with relevant legislation and guidance.
Main Duties:
* Provide tailored advice and support to prevent or reduce homelessness
* This role will involve liaising with landlords, partner agencies, and service users to resolve housing issues, carrying out home visits, and arranging temporary accommodation when necessary
* Assist in developing and implementing homelessness prevention strategies
* Maintain accurate statistical, financial, and administrative records
* Carry out home visits and liaise with landlords and agencies to resolve housing issues
* Allocate and monitor the Homelessness Prevention Fund for specific cases
* Investigate and assess homelessness applications in line with legislation
* Arrange temporary accommodation for households in need
* Contribute to the delivery of the Homelessness Strategy and related service plans
Esential Criteria:
* Prior experience in a local authority housing department or similar setting, with knowledge of homelessness prevention or supporting vulnerable clients
* Strong communication, influencing, and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of homelessness legislation
* Ability to manage a busy caseload and work both independently and as part of a team
* A valid driving licence
