If so, GSL Education are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Horticultural Education Support to work in schools in Wareham. This role offers the opportunity to inspire students through hands-on horticultural activities and support their academic, social, and emotional development. As a Horticultural Education Support, you will work closely with teaching staff to deliver engaging lessons and practical activities in gardening, planting, and horticultural projects. You will support students’ learning and wellbeing while helping maintain safe and productive outdoor environments. Ideally, candidates will hold a valid driving licence and be willing to drive for school activities.
About the School:
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.
As a Horticultural Education Support, your responsibilities will be:
Assist students during practical horticulture lessons and activities.
Support teaching staff in planning and delivering engaging horticultural learning experiences.
Provide one-to-one or small group support to students needing additional help.
Promote safe handling of tools, plants, and materials.
Encourage teamwork, responsibility, and independence through gardening tasks.
Maintain school gardens, outdoor spaces, and equipment in good condition.
Support students with behavioural, social, or additional learning needs.
Monitor student engagement and provide feedback to teaching staff.
Supervise students during outdoor lessons and breaks as required.
Support school projects, clubs, and horticulture-related events.
Horticultural Education Support Requirements:
Experience working with children or young people in an educational or outdoor setting.
A degree and knowledge of horticulture, gardening, or outdoor education practices.
A valid driving licence and willingness to drive for school activities.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Patience, enthusiasm, and a commitment to supporting students’ development.
Awareness of safeguarding and child protection in a school environment.
