Housing and Support Officer – South West
Location: Swindon.
Hours: 40 hours per week (pro rata considered)
Days: Monday - Friday. 08.30am - 17.00pm
Salary: £26.5k Per annum + Bonuses
Contract: Temp to Perm (permanent after 12 weeks)
About the Role: Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives? Join our Client as a Housing and Support Officer and play a key role in supporting vulnerable individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance misuse, and other complex needs. You’ll provide intensive, person-centred support to help clients overcome barriers and achieve lasting positive change.
You will play a key role in the support and resettlement of clients/residents, covering a wide variety of tasks that contribute to fixing broken lives.
You will work with people facing multiple and complex barriers including homelessness, mental health, substance misuse, offending behaviour and unemployment. You will work alongside the partners to ensure a multi-agency approach to support people into accommodation and support them to address the causes and consequences of their homelessness. The key focus is intensive person-centred coaching building on each person’s unique strengths and aspirations so they can transition out of their situation with dignity. You will collate appropriate monitoring data to measure and report on the success of the service. You will be part of the on-call rota.
KeyResponsibilities:
Able to demonstrate empathetic behaviours with the ability to Show compassion and Sympathy.
Work one-to-one with individuals facing multiple and complex challenges who are going through the toughest of life transitions, through face-to-face meetings, phone calls and text messages, using non-collusive and non-coercive supportive conversations that create a sense that change could be beneficial and possible.
Deliver intensive housing management, general support, and resettlement services.
Assist the individual to maximise their income, applying for housing or personal benefits or charitable groups for donations and assistance where appropriate.
Process referrals, conduct assessments, and develop tailored support plans.
Take appropriate and timely action to deal with any breaches of licence agreements/tenancies and other contracts.
Discretion, trustworthiness, tact and diplomacy to deal with highly sensitive matters.
Manage a caseload efficiently, ensuring effective use of time and resources.
Work one-to-one with clients through face-to-face meetings, calls, and texts.
Collaborate with statutory and voluntary sector partners for a multi-agency approach.
Advocate for clients to maximize opportunities and access benefits.
Maintain accurate records and complete all required paperwork promptly.
Conduct risk assessments and adhere to safeguarding and health & safety policies.
Support the allocation and management of properties, including health and safety checks.
Attend meetings with clients/residents as necessary.
Participate in the on-call rota and provide cover for team absences as needed.
As part of your wider duties and responsibilities you are required to promote and actively support the Company’s responsibilities towards safeguarding. Safeguarding is about keeping people safe and protecting people from harm, neglect, abuse and injury. It is about creating safe places, being vigilant and doing something about any concerns you might have. It isn't just about the very old and the very young, it is about everyone who may be vulnerable.
What We’re Looking For:
Ideally have experience working with vulnerable people or in a support/housing role. (Not essential)
If no experience in any of the above, You must have trasferable skills in a similar role.
Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
Confident using Microsoft Office and willing to learn case management software.
Motivated to achieve performance targets and deliver high-quality support.
Commitment to equality, diversity, and safeguarding.
Additional Requirements:
Full UK (Clean) Driving Licence and own vehicle. (Essential)
Enhanced DBS check required (including disclosure of spent convictions).
Willingness to wear an ID badge and security tag.
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.
