Job Description

Housing Benefits Officer About the Role As a Housing Benefits Officer, you will: Assess applications for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction, ensuring information provided is accurate and complete. Calculate entitlements using multiple IT systems, including Northgate. Process changes in circumstances and update claims accordingly. Respond to enquiries from customers, their representatives, and stakeholders both in person and by telephone, ensuring timely and accurate processing of claims. Key Responsibilities Accurately interpret, input, and maintain customer data across relevant systems. Provide excellent customer service-face-to-face, over the phone, and through written communication. Offer clear and concise explanations of benefit eligibility, entitlements, and processes. Keep up-to-date with welfare benefit regulations and policy changes. Collaborate with the team, supporting a positive, flexible, and proactive working environment. Who We're Looking For Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with numerical and textual information. Excellent communication skills, with experience liaising with a variety of stakeholders. A positive demeanor and willingness to support colleagues and adapt to evolving priorities. Customer service experience-ideally in a public-facing or administrative role. While previous Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction background is a plus, comprehensive training will be provided. Northgate system knowledge is highly desirable.
