We are currently working with a well‑established local authority housing provider seeking an experienced Housing Officer to join their Neighbourhood Services team on an interim basis.
This is a hands‑on role managing a defined patch of homes, with responsibility for tenancy management, estate standards, anti‑social behaviour, and resident engagement. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys ownership of a neighbourhood and delivering visible outcomes for residents.
Key Responsibilities
Manage a patch of council homes, ensuring estates are safe, well‑maintained, and compliant
Carry out planned and reactive estate inspections, identifying repairs, estate improvements, and tenancy breaches
Investigate and manage ASB cases, including complex cases involving vulnerability, safeguarding, and environmental nuisance
Deliver tenancy management activities including sign‑ups, successions, mutual exchanges, and tenancy audits
Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns such as hoarding, domestic abuse, or mental health needs, making appropriate referrals
Support void and rent‑loss minimisation through pre‑termination inspections, pre‑let viewings, and swift re‑lets
Manage abandoned properties and ensure legal processes are followed where enforcement action is required
Handle complaints and enquiries from residents, Councillors, and MPs
Work collaboratively with internal teams and external agencies to deliver joined‑up solutions
About You
Proven experience in a Housing Officer / Neighbourhood Officer role within a local authority or social housing setting
Strong working knowledge of housing law, landlord & tenant legislation, and ASB tools and powers
Confident managing complex cases involving vulnerable residents
Excellent communication skills with the ability to negotiate, influence, and problem‑solve
Able to manage a busy caseload independently while meeting deadlines
IT‑literate and comfortable working with housing management systems
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use
