Job Description

Job Purpose: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Housing Options Officer to join our Housing team. The successful applicant will provide timely, effective, and customer-focused housing advice on a wide range of issues, including statutory homelessness, relationship breakdown, mortgage arrears, and landlord and tenant disputes. You will play a vital role in supporting our statutory homelessness duties and delivering effective housing solutions to those in need. Key Responsibilities: Provide high-quality housing advice and assistance to customers on a broad range of housing issues. Process homelessness applications in line with current legislation, including the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 and the Housing Act 1996 (Part VII). Assess eligibility, priority need, and homelessness status, ensuring all decisions comply with statutory requirements and local policies. Develop and monitor Personal Housing Plans (PHPs) in collaboration with applicants and relevant support services. Offer advice and support to prevent homelessness, including assistance with tenancy sustainment, mortgage arrears, and relationship breakdown. Work collaboratively with landlords, housing associations, statutory services, and other partners to secure appropriate housing solutions. Respond to general housing enquiries from members of the public and stakeholders, both face-to-face and through written and electronic correspondence. Use IT systems to maintain accurate records, process applications, and manage casework efficiently. Provide exceptional customer service in all interactions, ensuring a sensitive and respectful approach to those in housing crisis. Keep up to date with relevant housing legislation, policies, and best practice. Person Specification: Essential: Demonstrable experience in applying homelessness legislation and case law. Proven ability to work effectively with external partners to prevent and relieve homelessness. Experience working in a housing or homelessness environment, with a solid understanding of statutory requirements and the Homelessness Code of Guidance. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly and sensitively. Strong organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage a demanding workload and meet deadlines.
