Job Description

HR Officer Job Title: HR Officer Location: East London Pay Rate: £22 per hour Contract: Temporary long term placement – Permanent opportunity is available Hours: Full-Time (8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday to Friday) About the Role: We are seeking a confident, knowledgeable, and proactive Temporary HR Officer to support and coordinate key areas of the Human Resources function within a dynamic and supportive school environment in East London. This role is ideal for an experienced HR professional who is able to work independently and take ownership of HR processes, particularly in relation to recruitment, compliance, and employee relations. Key Responsibilities: Act as the first point of contact for HR queries, offering advice and guidance to staff in line with school policies and employment legislation. Oversee and coordinate the full recruitment lifecycle, from advertising and shortlisting through to pre-employment checks and onboarding. Prepare and issue employment contracts, variation letters, and other formal HR documentation. Ensure robust safeguarding and safer recruitment procedures are followed, including managing DBS checks, references, and right-to-work documentation. Maintain and manage the school’s HR database and personnel files, ensuring accuracy, confidentiality, and GDPR compliance. Monitor staff attendance and manage absence records, escalating concerns where appropriate and supporting return-to-work processes. Support line managers with employee relations matters, including note-taking during meetings and advising on procedures. Liaise with payroll providers to ensure accurate and timely submission of staff changes and pay adjustments. Contribute to the development and review of HR policies and procedures. Provide regular reports and HR data analysis for the leadership team. Person Specification: Essential: Previous experience in an HR Officer or similar role Strong working knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment law Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with attention to detail Strong IT skills, including MS Office and HR/payroll systems Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive information confidentially Desirable: Experience working in a school or education setting. Understanding of safer recruitment and safeguarding practices in schools. CIPD qualification (Level 3 or above) or working towards. Additional Information: An enhanced DBS check is required for this role (or willingness to undergo one). Immediate start available
