About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager to join our growing chemical manufacturing operation in North Yorkshire. This is a pivotal role within a business undergoing significant transformation and development. The successful candidate will lead the evolution of our HSE culture, driving compliance, engagement, and continuous improvement across all levels of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities

Lead the development and implementation of HSE policies, procedures, and systems across the site.

Collaborate closely with production and operations teams to ensure HSE strategies are practical, effective, and clearly understood.
*
Translate complex risk assessments and technical safety information into accessible, operator-friendly language.
*
Serve as the key advisor to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Board, providing high-level guidance on compliance, regulatory updates, and HSE strategy.
*
Manage and oversee key safety processes, including permits to work, confined space entry, lockout/tagout, and hazardous work activities.
*
Conduct audits, inspections, and incident investigations, ensuring timely root cause analysis and corrective actions.
*
Promote a strong HSE culture through coaching, internal upskilling, and competency development programs.
*
Support and influence organisational change, ensuring health and safety is embedded in all aspects of business transformation and site growth.
*
Maintain effective communication with regulatory bodies and external stakeholders to ensure compliance and uphold company reputation.
Requirements
*
Proven experience in an HSE leadership role within the chemical or process manufacturing industry (COMAH site experience highly desirable).
*
Strong understanding of UK HSE legislation, regulations, and industry best practice.
*
Ability to communicate and influence across all levels – from frontline operators to the boardroom.
*
Hands-on experience managing permits to work, confined space entry, and other high-risk operational controls.
*
Track record of leading training, coaching, and internal upskilling initiatives.
*
NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) essential; Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) desirable.
*
A degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related field (e.g., BEng or MEng) is highly advantageous.
*
