Role Summary:
As a High Voltage (HV) Field Test Technician, you will conduct commissioning, maintenance, and diagnostic testing on HV and EHV AC/DC cable systems in compliance with international standards. This is a field-based role involving regular travel to client sites across Germany and other European countries. Remote work (home office) is also part of the role for planning, data analysis, and test reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform on-site commissioning and routine maintenance testing of high-voltage (HV) and extra high-voltage (EHV) cable systems (AC & DC)
Execute offline and online field testing including:
Insulation Resistance Testing
Very Low Frequency (VLF) Testing
Tan Delta / Dissipation Factor Testing
Partial Discharge (PD) Diagnosis and Monitoring
Analyze partial discharge data using specialized software to detect insulation faults and defects
Develop and implement new diagnostic techniques for HV/EHV systems
Write and deliver accurate technical reports including findings, recommendations, and compliance notes
Use and support remote monitoring tools (e.g., Line View or equivalent)
Collaborate with engineering colleagues, planners, and site personnel for pre-site preparation and post-site documentation
Other Duties:
Adhere to Health & Safety guidelines at all times
Participate in internal training programs and support knowledge-sharing
Maintain company equipment and adhere to calibration protocols
Be available for emergency response testing (if applicable)
Perform any additional duties required by the line manager
Required Qualifications:
Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field (e.g., Energy, Power, Mechatronics)
Understanding of HV test methods and electrical infrastructure systems
Valid Driver’s License (EU Class B)
Willingness and availability to travel frequently within Germany and EU
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (German required)
Desirable Skills and Experience:
Prior experience with HV/EHV cable systems, commissioning, or cable diagnostics
Use of industry-recognized testing tools (e.g., Omicron, Megger, BAUR)
Familiarity with standards such as IEC 60287, IEC 60840, IEC 62067, or IEEE 400
Knowledge of PD monitoring tools, waveform analysis, or signal processing
Technical writing experience in test documentation or QA/QC reports
Fluency in English (preferred for multi-national team collaboration)
