Job Description

HVAC Systems Engineer About the Opportunity: NRL is supporting a major client in the recruitment of a skilled and forward-thinking HVAC Systems Engineer to join their expanding Energy Programmes Business Unit. This team is at the forefront of shaping the future of nuclear power.   As an HVAC Systems Engineer, you'll play a pivotal role in reviewing and updating system documentation and data tools, and defining mechanical, electrical, nuclear safety, and control logic requirements. You’ll work across multidisciplinary engineering areas to ensure compliance with engineering rules, methodologies, and quality processes. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to some of the most complex and nationally significant energy projects in the UK and Europe.   This role offers the chance to develop your technical expertise in a collaborative environment where innovation, safety, and high-quality delivery are at the centre of everything we do.   Key Responsibilities: Analyse and verify input data, requirements, and lessons learned from other stations. Perform component sizing (pumps, pipework, fans, tanks) and carry out thermal-hydraulic calculations using in-house or commercial tools. Conduct thermal calculations relating to building systems. Support the procurement team in developing technical specifications and supplier documentation. Manage modification requests, ensuring applicability and alignment with system requirements. Develop and present technical solutions that consider impacts across all engineering disciplines and support design stability. Resolve technically challenging, multi-disciplinary design issues proactively and efficiently. Define Instrumentation & Control (I&C) functional requirements, ensuring alignment with key safety inputs and safety case requirements. Use I&C tools within EPR-E to define logic, write and perform test procedures, and develop HMI interfaces for the Control Room. Produce and update I&C sections of the System Design Manual. Conduct technical peer reviews of I&C documentation produced by other engineers. Contribute to and attend technical reviews including kick-off, maturity, and gate review meetings.  Qualifications & Experience: Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (or an equivalent qualification). Ability to manage workload effectively and communicate clearly within a multidisciplinary environment. Proactive approach to building positive working relationships. Ideally 3+ years’ experience in process engineering or experience within the nuclear industry. Experience working on an operating plant or industrial site is highly beneficial.  What We Offer: Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package. Single medical cover and access to digital GP services. Enhanced parental leave and ongoing professional development support. Opportunities to participate in charity and volunteering initiatives through our Collectively Programme. Flexible working arrangements and genuine opportunities for career progression within a supportive, inclusive environment.  Primary Location: Flexible UK locations, with project-related travel as required. The NRL Group connect global companies with the right people to bring engineering projects to life. Supporting contracting companies with energy transition plans and working with our clients to create a cleaner, greener future.   We welcome applications from every walk of life and are committed to diversity within the industries we support, as a certified Inclusive Recruiter and Armed Forces friendly employer.
