Mechanical Fitter / Hydraulic Technician
UK-based (Workshop + Site Travel)
£35,000 - £38,000 + Overtime (1.5x)
Full-time | 38 hours | Day shifts | Flexible hours
We are currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering client specialising in hydraulic systems and mechanical assemblies. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Fitter or Hydraulic Technician to join a growing team, working both in-house and on customer sites across the UK (with occasional international travel).
The Role
This is a varied, hands-on position involving the assembly, installation, testing, and maintenance of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Key responsibilities include:
Assembly and testing of hydraulic power units (HPUs), cylinders, manifolds, and associated pipework
Conducting quality checks to ensure systems meet technical and safety standards
Supporting factory acceptance testing (FAT) and preparing equipment for dispatch
Installation of mechanical and hydraulic systems at customer sites
Fitting components such as motors, gearboxes, and bearings to specification
Carrying out hydraulic flushing, pressure testing, and commissioning
Fault finding, root cause analysis, and ongoing servicing work
Performing both reactive and planned maintenance
Producing detailed service and installation reports
Maintaining accurate records for build, test, and service traceability
About You
We're looking for someone with a strong mechanical background and experience working with hydraulic systems.
Essential:
Mechanical apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Practical experience with hydraulic systems
Solid understanding of hydraulic principles
Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
Willingness to travel for site-based work
