Import Officer; 12 month contract; based at Samlesbury; £21.38 per hour PAYE
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Import Officer to work as part of a busy International Trade Solutions Team at BAE Systems, Samlesbury. As an Import Officer, you will be required to meet the increasingly complex needs for the physical delivery of Air Sector assets for existing and emerging international customers. You will also contribute to the reporting within the company framework and for the escalation of all business issues relating to import operations. This role will provide you with the opportunity to gain import operational experience across all Air platforms including US Programmes and Europe & International.
The role will report into the Import Operations Team Leader and will have responsibility for the efficient and economical movement of goods in accordance with company policies and in compliance with relevant national and international laws. The successful candidate will have responsibility for all aspects of import documentation defined by HMRC, maintaining knowledge of legislative changes that impact current or potential future business procedures, whilst supporting good governance, compliance and effective administration of the processes for the company.
Typical duties will include;
- Coordinating the movement of products and equipment into the country in adherence with the relevant customs
regulations
- Accurate and timely raising of customs clearance instructions for various freight agents enabling swift movement of goods
- Cost effective and lawful execution of all import activities accurately, reporting to HMRC
- Liaising with stakeholders to resolve any delivery issues
- Collaborating with internal customers and liaising with forwarders and agents to acquire shipment information
- Acting as one of the primary contacts for import enquiries and ensuring a timely response
- Ensuring monthly deadlines are met in relation to HMRC import declarations
- Understanding and regular utilisation of various duty relief schemes enabling cost effective service to the Business
- Maintaining and sharing with colleagues as appropriate, knowledge of all relevant import law and procedures,
tariffs and duties, licenses and restrictions
- Handling incoming calls from internal and external customers
The successful candidate will have previous experience within an import/export role and will have solid knowledge of international trade matters with good experience of applying up to date import techniques. You must be familiar with the legal requirements regarding importing and exporting of shipments and have an understanding of the role of freight forwarders, You must be familiar with SDP procedures and have knowledge of Customs Special Procedures.
