Independent Reviewing Officer / Child Protection Chair - Staffordshire
About the Role
Staffordshire County Council is seeking an experienced Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) / Child Protection Chair (CP Chair) to join our team on a short-term basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for social workers with strong expertise in safeguarding, care planning, and statutory responsibilities to make a real impact for children and young people across the county.
As an IRO, you will:
Chair statutory reviews for looked-after children.
Ensure that each child has a robust, timely, and effective care plan reflecting their needs and aspirations.
Advocate for the child's voice, ensuring it is considered in all planning and decision-making.
Monitor the local authority's performance in implementing care plans.
Escalate concerns to ensure statutory expectations are met.As a Child Protection Chair, you will:
Lead Initial and Review Child Protection Conferences.
Make decisions regarding Child Protection Plans in the best interests of children.
Oversee implementation of child protection plans, ensuring timely progress.
Prevent drift and delay by actively monitoring cases.
Communicate effectively using restorative practice principles.
About You
We are looking for candidates who:
Are qualified social workers registered with Social Work England.
Have a minimum of 2 years' experience in IRO or Child Protection Chair roles.
Demonstrate strong analytical, decision-making, and communication skills.
Are confident working independently and managing complex caseloads.
Have a solid understanding of legislation and statutory guidance including the Children Act 1989 and the IRO Handbook 2010.
