Job Title: Industrial Automation Support Engineer
Duration: 12+ Month Contract
Location: Bristol/Bath
Day Rate: Competitive - Outside IR35
Overview:
Chapman Tate is working with a leading engineering and manufacturing organisation who is seeking an experienced Industrial Automation Support Engineer. You will play a key role in ensuring business-critical systems are maintained, optimized, and supported. The role requires 100% onsite presence in Bristol and is offered outside IR35 for an initial 12+ month duration, with potential for extension.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide day-to-day support for critical shopfloor automation and IT applications.
* Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues within defined SLAs.
* Deliver permanent solutions to recurring system and performance issues.
* Collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders, and suppliers to ensure seamless operations.
* Maintain and improve support documentation and knowledge-sharing tools.
* Deliver clear, regular updates to internal stakeholders.
* Coordinate technical communications across OEMs, suppliers, and end-users.
* Assist and cover other team members when required.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Strong hands-on experience supporting MES/MOM technologies in manufacturing environments.
* Proficient in Aveva/Wonderware Intouch, PLC, SCADA, and HMI systems.
* Knowledge of machine integration, including OPC and other interfacing protocols.
* Experience with Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) manufacturing IT applications.
* Skilled in integrating factory automation layers with MES platforms.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Familiarity with IIoT devices, sensors, and manufacturing control systems.
* Experience using ServiceNow, with working knowledge of Incident, Problem, Change, and Knowledge Management processes.
* Understanding of ITIL practices is beneficial.
Person Specification:
* 4–6 years of experience in supporting manufacturing and quality-related shopfloor applications.
* Strong hands-on background in production support.
* Must be a UK citizen (due to project security requirements).
* BPSS clearance is advantageous.
