About the Role We are seeking an experienced Building Safety Manager to join a South East local authority on an interim basis. This pivotal role is responsible for overseeing building safety compliance and management across the authority's housing and public buildings portfolio, with a focus on the 'Big 6' safety risks: fire safety, gas safety, electrical safety, water hygiene, asbestos management, and lifts. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all aspects of building safety and compliance relating to the Big 6 disciplines across the local authority's residential and public properties. Ensure compliance with the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Order, and all relevant health and safety legislation. Coordinate and oversee safety inspections, audits, risk assessments, and remedial works. Work closely with contractors, engineers, and internal teams to ensure timely delivery of safety works and maintenance. Manage and update building safety records, safety cases, and documentation to meet regulatory requirements. Act as the key liaison point with regulatory bodies, residents, and stakeholders on building safety matters. Provide expert advice and guidance on building safety strategy, risk mitigation, and improvements. Monitor and report on building safety performance and compliance status to senior management. Support the development and delivery of building safety policies, procedures, and training programs. Essential Qualifications and Experience Proven experience in a building safety or building management role, ideally within local government or social housing. Strong knowledge of the Big 6 safety disciplines and associated legislation and best practices. Experience managing building safety compliance within multi-occupancy residential settings. Ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and guidance, including the Building Safety Act and Fire Safety Order. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, including working with residents, contractors, and regulatory bodies. Excellent organizational and project management abilities. Relevant qualifications or certifications in building safety, health & safety, or property management are desirable.
