Job Title: Interim Director of Regeneration & Assets Rate: £896.16 per day (Inside IR35) Contract Length: 6-month initial term (with potential to extend to 12 months) Location: Hybrid working model , 2 days on-site per week (Wednesdays essential) Introduction An ambitious local authority is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Regeneration & Assets to lead a large-scale transformation programme focused on housing delivery, capital regeneration, and strategic asset management. The organisation has set a bold target to deliver 1,000 new homes per year, alongside a series of high-profile capital projects, including five key Mayoral priorities and extra care development schemes. This is a pivotal period of transformation following the reintegration of housing services previously managed externally. The restructure brings together housing supply, project delivery, and regeneration under a single directorate, creating a more streamlined and commercially minded property development function. About the Role Reporting directly to the Corporate Director of Housing and Regeneration, you will provide day-to-day leadership across regeneration, real estate, and facilities management (FM). You'll drive delivery of a complex capital programme both housing and non-housing and act as a senior strategic advisor on asset optimisation, capital investment planning, and development strategy. Key responsibilities include: Leading the regeneration and corporate property teams to deliver on housing targets and community-focused capital projects. Driving the delivery of new homes on council-owned land in collaboration with housing delivery and planning teams. Embedding strong development management disciplines to move sites from concept to construction. Overseeing strategic asset management and the FM function as part of a new corporate landlord model. Developing strong partnerships with developers, funding bodies (including the GLA), and other key stakeholders. Providing visible leadership across the wider directorate and corporate management team.Key Deliverables Accelerate the housing development pipeline with a clear and funded programme for currently unfunded sites. Deliver on five mayoral capital priorities, including community facilities and extra care schemes. Lead a high-performing team spanning regeneration, asset management, and FM. Ensure excellent reporting standards, risk controls, and programme governance are in place. Drive financial oversight, including capital spend and operational performance. Secure land and property for development through strategic disposals, acquisitions, and vacant possession planning. Champion a performance management framework that provides real-time insight into delivery against strategic objectives.Person Specification This role requires a dynamic leader with a proven track record in complex housing and regeneration delivery. You will have significant experience working within a local authority or housing provider, with deep commercial understanding of land, development, and capital delivery. Essential experience and capabilities: Senior leadership in regeneration and housing development, ideally at director or assistant director level. Proven ability to manage complex development programmes from inception through to completion. Experience overseeing corporate real estate and FM functions, with technical understanding of asset management. Strong financial management, including capital budgets and development appraisals. Political acumen, with experience working alongside senior stakeholders such as Mayors, Cabinet Members, or Board Chairs.
