A proactive and well-established local authority is seeking a qualified Food Enforcement Officer to support its Commercial Services Team on a part-time basis, initially until October 2025. This interim assignment involves delivering high-quality food hygiene inspections with the flexibility to manage your own schedule.
The role involves conducting 80–100 inspections across a variety of food businesses, mainly Category D premises, with some Category B and C sites. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced professionals seeking short-term, flexible work with competitive rates.
Key responsibilities of the Food Enforcement Officer:
Carry out food hygiene inspections in accordance with FSA regulations and local authority procedures
Prepare detailed inspection reports and assign risk ratings for each premises
On occasion, issue extended reports and letters, with additional payments provided
Ensure all work meets statutory standards and internal quality requirements
Maintain accurate records and ensure timely documentation of inspections
The ideal candidate will have:
One of the following essential qualifications:
Higher or Advanced Certificate in Food Premises Inspection (EHRB)
BSc or MSc in Environmental Health (or equivalent)
Up-to-date CPD record (minimum 20 hours annually), with at least 10 hours relating to Regulatory Food Safety Inspections
Demonstrable competency in food premises inspections, ideally evidenced by a completed competency assessment document
Experience in delivering inspections for local authorities or similar regulatory bodies
