Job Description
Pertemps are working with our public sector client to recruit a Janitor on a temporary basis.
Location: Edinburgh North (Pilton)
Hours: Rotating shift pattern – 4 early shifts (07:30–15:30), followed by 2 days off, then 4 late shifts (14:00–22:30), followed by 2 days off
Pay Rate: £14.51 per hour
Duration: Temporary 3 months (potential extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Are you proactive, practical, and take pride in keeping environments safe, clean, and well managed? We’re looking for a Janitor to play a key role in maintaining high standards across residential estates.
About the Role
As a Janitor, you’ll be responsible for ensuring that multi-storey blocks and surrounding areas are clean, secure, and welcoming for residents. This is a varied role combining both office-based duties and hands-on estate management.
Your responsibilities will include:
Carrying out regular patrols to ensure buildings and estates are safe and well maintained.
Monitoring CCTV, door entry, and IT systems to support security and resident access.
Acting as a first point of contact for tenant queries and resolving or escalating issues.
Managing administrative tasks such as issuing fobs and maintaining records.
Cleaning and maintaining communal areas including lifts, foyers, and litter chutes.
Conducting litter picks and ensuring outdoor areas remain tidy and presentable.
Supporting emergency cover where required at short notice.You’ll thrive in this role if you’re:
Reliable, flexible, and able to work a rotating shift pattern (early, late, weekends)
Comfortable balancing office-based tasks with hands-on cleaning and estate duties.
A strong communicator who can engage effectively with residents and visitors.
Proactive in identifying and addressing issues to maintain high standards.
