Job Description

Analogue and digital electronics design at small and supportive company This company is looking for a junior electronics engineer with an interest in expanding their circuit design and PCB layout skills across both analogue and digital domains. They make high-end scientific instrumentation with often unusual electrical requirements and seek a candidate with strong electronics fundamentals and good systems level thinking. Alongside the day-to-day circuit design and PCB layout, you will work with high voltage circuits and learn to design around strong EM and RF fields. You will also be designing control circuits for various pieces of industrial equipment (valves, pumps, etc) including digital control with microcontrollers. Their equipment often incorporates high speed and high-resolution measurements and achieving these requirements will also be part of your work. This is not a job you will be doing alone. You will be working closely with true experts in the field and have unparalleled opportunity to learn from them as well as work alongside them. Gaining mastery over such a wide section of electronics won’t be quick, but you will be encouraged, supported and celebrated every step of the way. The work undertaken at this company can be highly specialised and they don’t expect you to have developed these skills whilst at university. They are instead looking for candidates with demonstratable practical electronics skills and knowledge. Maybe you have some commercial experience already or maybe you’re finishing up a hands-on PhD. Perhaps you’re a radio enthusiast and have designed and built your own set, or maybe you worked on the electronics for a formula student car. It’s these types of real-world projects which show your understanding and engineering skills that will catch the attention of this team. The company you will be joining is small but long established, located a few miles north of Cambridge and backed by a larger parent company. With assembly of their products taking place in the lab downstairs alongside R&D prototypes, this is very much a collaborative and hands-on environment. They’re situated close to good rail and road links, offer a good set of benefits and uphold traditions like the Friday pub lunch.
