Job Description

Job Role: Justice Quality Lead Location: HMP The Mount Salary: Up to £35,000 Contract: Permanent Role Overview: We are seeking an experienced and motivated Quality Assurance Assistant Manager to join the education team at HMP The Mount. In this pivotal role, you will support the Education Manager in driving quality performance across all subject areas, including Functional Skills, personal and social development, and work-based programmes. You will lead on quality assurance and improvement, championing excellence in teaching, learning, assessment, and behaviour management strategies relevant to a custodial setting. This role will suit a dynamic and proactive individual who thrives on developing innovative solutions, supporting teaching staff, and ensuring that the highest standards of educational delivery are consistently achieved. You will also take line management responsibility for Neurodiversity and Reading Specialist roles, promoting inclusive learning practices and ensuring effective support for learners with diverse needs. Key Responsibilities: * Drive the site’s quality performance and continuous improvement across all areas of provision, including Functional Skills. * Champion and embed excellence in teaching, learning, assessment, and behaviour management, ensuring alignment with organisational values and procedures. * Lead on the effective implementation of the Quality Cycle, ensuring consistency and accountability across the department. * Provide line management for Neurodiversity and Reading Specialists and/or Inclusion Support Coordinators, ensuring effective learner support and inclusion for those with additional needs or disabilities. * Plan and manage the annual observation cycle, including lesson observations, learning walks, and deep dives, producing detailed reports and actionable improvement plans. * Coach, mentor, and support tutors to develop and refine their teaching practice, ensuring action plans are followed and improvements are sustained. * Deliver and coordinate local CPD programmes based on trends identified through quality assurance processes and staff reviews. * Monitor and coordinate IQA and EQA activity, supporting quality compliance and carrying out internal quality assurance where required. * Ensure specialist staff fulfil their duties around neurodiversity and reading support, including detailed screening, intervention, and support planning. * Induct and mentor new teaching staff, promoting professional growth and consistent delivery standards. * Lead on the creation, monitoring, and reporting of learner engagement strategies, ensuring active learner participation and feedback. * Maintain and update the quality toolkit, ensuring all data and reporting requirements are completed accurately and submitted in line with internal deadlines. * Share best practice across departments, attending and contributing to quality meetings, and cascading updates and training to staff. * Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching, learning, and departmental management. * Provide occasional teaching cover when required to maintain continuity of delivery. * Undertake relevant professional development to maintain and enhance quality and compliance standards. Essential Criteria: * A relevant degree and/or professional qualification. * Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS). * Significant experience delivering and managing education programmes. * Proven track record in quality assurance, curriculum development, and staff performance improvement. * Strong knowledge of Ofsted requirements, IQA/EQA processes, and effective quality management practices. * Excellent leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills. * Strong IT, reporting, and analytical abilities. * Full UK driving licence and access to own transport. Desirable Criteria: * Experience within a prison or offender learning environment. * IQA qualification (e.g. TAQA, V1) or equivalent. * Knowledge of neurodiversity and inclusive education practices. * Experience leading or supporting inspections or audits (e.g. Ofsted, HMIP)
