Job Description

Job Title: KS2 Year 5 Class Teacher (ECT) Salary: M1 – M2 (Dependent on experience) Contract: Full-time, Temp Location: Dewsbury, WF13 Responsible to: KS2 Phase Leader / Deputy Headteacher / Headteacher Purpose of the Role To plan, teach and assess a Year 5 class, creating an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports the progress and well-being of all pupils. As an Early Career Teacher (ECT), you will receive full induction support in line with statutory requirements, including a mentor and protected development time. Key ResponsibilitiesTeaching and Learning Plan and deliver engaging lessons in line with the National Curriculum for KS2, particularly Year 5. Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including SEND, EAL, and high-attaining pupils. Use formative and summative assessments to track pupil progress and inform planning. Provide clear learning objectives and success criteria, fostering a growth mindset. Maintain a positive, well-managed classroom environment conducive to learning. Assessment and Reporting Use assessment data effectively to monitor pupil progress and set targets. Complete accurate and timely records of pupils’ achievements. Report on pupil progress to parents/carers and school leaders as required. Support the preparation and administration of standardised assessments (e.g., optional SATs, internal moderation). Pastoral and Safeguarding Responsibilities Promote the welfare and well-being of pupils in line with safeguarding procedures. Provide pastoral support, acting as the first point of contact for parents/carers. Foster positive behaviour in line with the school’s behaviour policy. Professional Development Engage fully with the Early Career Framework (ECF) and induction programme. Attend regular mentor meetings, training sessions, and professional development days. Actively seek feedback to improve practice and contribute to the life of the school. Wider School Contribution Support school events, trips, and extracurricular activities. Collaborate with colleagues within the phase and across the school. Uphold the school’s ethos, values, and policies at all times. Person SpecificationEssential Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). Recent teaching practice or experience in a KS2 setting, preferably Year 5. Strong knowledge of the KS2 National Curriculum. Commitment to inclusive teaching and safeguarding. Positive and reflective attitude with strong communication skills. Desirable Experience of using formative assessment tools effectively. Understanding of Year 5 curriculum progression and transition to Year 6. Familiarity with key resources (e.g., White Rose Maths, Talk for Writing, etc.). Interest in leading a subject or area of school life in the future. All applicants will require the appropriate qualifications and training for this role.
