Details of this position:
This position is for a full-time Laundry Workshop Instructor to work within prison education.
As the lead for the laundry and sewing workshop, you'll oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring the smooth running of both laundry and textile activities. Your responsibilities will include:
Supervising and motivating a team of prisoners, fostering structure, safety, and productivity.
Setting clear work schedules and targets to ensure all laundry and textile tasks are completed to a high standard.
Supporting the development of employability skills through the Employability Passport, working closely with Work & Skills Coaches.
Promoting restorative practices that encourage accountability, personal growth, and positive engagement.
Managing stock, tools, and materials in line with prison security and safety procedures.
Contributing to prisoner reports and rehabilitation plans as part of a collaborative, multi-departmental approach.
Work schedule:
38.5 hours per week across 5 days:
Four days: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM
One half-day: either 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM or 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM
Salary scale: From £30,000 per year
Ideal Candidate Profile:
Experience in laundry, textiles, or a similar practical industry ideally in a supervisory or training role.
The ability to manage people and foster a positive working environment.
Strong organisational skills and a focus on health and safety.
An understanding of, or willingness to learn, restorative practices.
A collaborative approach to working with custodial staff and other internal teams.
Suitable candidates will need to be enthusiastic, resilient, and have a humanistic approach. This role will not be for everyone, but anyone with an interest is encouraged to apply.
