Lead Developer, WordPress – Shropshire - £40k-£50k
Lead Developer who is ready to take ownership, shape how things are built, and make a genuine impact on projects to join this growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing digital team in Shropshire, working on projects that blend creativity with solid technical delivery and has the scope to grow and develop into a Development Manager role.
You will take the lead within the team on the delivery of projects, leading from the front, mentoring junior developers, and helping guide the team’s technical direction. This is a role with real influence and visibility, and the perfect step towards a Development Manager position as the team continues to grow.

Your role will involve:

Taking the lead on developing and delivering WordPress websites that are fast, secure, and scalable.

Supporting and mentor junior developers, helping them to grow their skills and confidence.

Working closely with designers, Project Managers, and clients to bring ideas to life through clean, well structured code.
*
Keeping development processes sharp, from Git workflows to CI/CD and deployment best practice.
*
Staying ahead of the curve by suggesting new tools, frameworks, or smarter ways to work.
*
Some projects with Laravel, this would be a nice bonus, but not the core focus.
We need you to have:

Deep experience with WordPress, including custom themes, plugins, and complex builds.
*
Strong front-end skills: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+) and responsive design.
*
Understanding of MySQL, APIs, and performance optimisation.
*
Confident with Git, deployment pipelines, and modern development workflows.
*
A natural leader who enjoys collaboration, mentoring, and sharing knowledge.
*
Awareness of accessibility, security, and UX best practices.
*
Bonus points for any experience with Laravel or modern PHP frameworks.
