Lead Electrical Engineer / Power System Engineer - HVDC - Offshore Wind - Interconnectors - Electrical Engineering – Contract / Freelance Position
Job Overview:
We are currently supporting a globally recognised engineering consultancy in their search for a Senior or Lead HVDC Electrical Engineer to join their growing Transmission & Distribution division.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of major low-carbon infrastructure projects across Europe, including offshore wind grid connections, cross-border interconnectors, and utility-scale HVDC systems. The successful candidate will play a key technical and project leadership role across a range of engineering design and advisory scopes.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead or contribute to the electrical design and technical advisory of HVDC (and HVAC) transmission systems across all project stages
* Deliver engineering input for feasibility studies, concept design, and FEED
* Coordinate closely with internal engineering teams, contractors, and client stakeholders
* Support or lead project delivery, ensuring alignment with European regulatory, grid code, and safety standards
* Present technical designs and recommendations to clients, TSOs, and authorities
Qualifications & Experience:
* Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline
* Proven experience on HVDC transmission projects - including converter station design, HVDC cable systems, or interconnectors
* Solid understanding of HVDC technologies (VSC, LCC), system integration, and grid compliance in Germany
* Consultancy or utility-side experience in supporting high-profile infrastructure projects
* Strong client-facing and multi-disciplinary coordination experience
