An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to take a key role in the development of advanced electric drive systems. You’ll lead a talented team of Principal and Senior Engineers, driving the design, development, and delivery of innovative products for applications such as motorcycles, scooters, and outdoor power equipment.
The Role
You will be responsible for the technical direction of the mechanical engineering function, ensuring projects are delivered on time, to budget, and to the highest quality standards. This will include:
* Leading the development of mechanical design and assembly processes to meet performance, cost, and reliability targets.
* Planning and coordinating engineering standards, systems, and processes.
* Guiding the transition from concept to high-volume production, ensuring manufacturability, quality, and reliability.
* Supporting prototype build, validation, and test activities.
* Coaching and developing the engineering team, fostering continuous improvement and professional growth.
About You:
* A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline (Chartered status desirable).
* Proven experience leading engineering teams in high-volume, low-cost mechanical design for harsh environments (automotive, agricultural, outdoor power equipment, or similar).
* Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacture, CAD modelling (SolidWorks or equivalent), and validation/testing processes.
* Experience in process development, lean manufacturing, and continuous improvement.
* Excellent leadership, organisational, and communication skills.
