Lead Power Electronics Engineer
Location: Commutable of Portsmouth, Chichester and the surrounding areas.
An exciting opportunity has become available for a Lead Power Electronics Engineer who will join an established company at the forefront of power supply design technology.
The Lead Power Electronics Engineer will drive the development of cutting-edge power conversion systems. You will take ownership of high-efficiency designs for applications such as inverters and DC/DC converters, leading technical teams from concept to deployment.
As the technical authority in power electronics, you will be instrumental in setting architecture direction, guiding design reviews, mentoring engineers, and ensuring robust performance in real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead end-to-end development of power electronics systems: requirements capture, simulation, design, prototyping, and validation
* Architect and design power converters using SiC/GaN or silicon technologies (e.g., DC/DC, AC/DC, and DC/AC topologies)
* Collaborate cross-functionally with firmware, mechanical, and systems engineering teams
* Perform detailed analysis, including switching behaviour, thermal performance, EMC, and reliability
* Oversee PCB layout best practices for high-power/high-frequency circuits
* Drive DVT (design verification testing) and troubleshoot prototypes in the lab
* Interface with suppliers for component selection and manufacturing partners for DFM
* Mentor junior engineers and establish engineering best practices
What our client is Looking For
* Degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or related field
* 8+ years of experience in power electronics design and development
* Strong understanding of various converter topologies and control strategies
* Experience with wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN)
* Familiarity with simulation tools (PSpice, LTspice, MATLAB/Simulink, etc.)
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment
* Proven leadership in technical projects or team management
