Lead Quality Inspector – Precision Engineering
Location: Wakefield | Salary: £40,000 + bonus + benefits
A precision engineering company in Wakefield—part of a global group specialising in advanced manufacturing and automation—is seeking a Lead Quality Inspector to oversee mechanical inspection across high-spec machined and fabricated components.
Working within a fast-paced, ISO-certified environment, you’ll play a key role in ensuring product conformity, leading inspection processes, and liaising with engineering teams to drive quality across the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities:
First-off, in-process and final inspection of precision components to detailed engineering drawings
Operate and maintain a full range of inspection equipment including micrometers, Bowers gauges, height gauges, and hardness testers
Use and support the operation of metrology equipment such as Keyence CMM (XM-5000) or similar
Interpret technical drawings, material specifications, and test certificates
Manage calibration schedules and ensure compliance with ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards
Complete detailed inspection reports and certificates of conformance
Support root cause analysis and customer-facing quality investigations
What we’re looking for:
Strong background in mechanical quality inspection within a precision engineering or fabrication environment
Proficient in dimensional inspection techniques and measurement tools
Experience with CMM or vision systems (Keyence or similar) desirable
Comfortable working to tight tolerances and engineering standards
Methodical, detail-focused and confident leading inspection activity
