Some learners need more than teaching. They need someone looking out for their welfare. That’s where you come in.
This Welfare Officer role is about making sure young people on Supported Internships get the pastoral support they need to stay on track. You’ll work with delivery staff, families, and learners themselves – spotting issues early, offering guidance, and making sure “at risk” learners don’t slip through the cracks.
What you’ll actually do:
Provide 1:1 or group pastoral support to learners with additional needs.
Work closely with delivery colleagues to build their confidence in welfare support.
Handle safeguarding, Prevent and mental health concerns appropriately.
Liaise with families and external agencies where needed.
What you’ll need:
Experience dealing with mental health, safeguarding & Prevent issues.
Pastoral care experience, ideally with young people who have learning disabilities, learning difficulties or autism.
Good communication skills – you’ll be dealing with learners, staff and external stakeholders daily.
The ability to stay organised and self-motivated in a busy environment.
Training in mental health first aid or safeguarding would be useful, but not essential.
This is a 6–9 month fixed term contract, full time, based in Birmingham.
