Our client, a friendly and forward-thinking primary school in Colchester, Essex, is seeking to appoint Learning Support Assistants to join their committed and dynamic team. The school is recognised for its hands-on, child-centred approach, with pupils regularly engaging in project-based learning, themed curriculum weeks, and community events. With a strong emphasis on emotional wellbeing and inclusive practice, it offers a vibrant and supportive environment where every day brings something new.
This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as those requiring assistance with behavioural and emotional regulation.
About the Role:
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:
Support children with SEMH and behavioural needs, both in the classroom and in designated specialist learning areas
Deliver 1:1 and small group interventions tailored to individual pupil needs
Help manage behaviour and promote a positive, inclusive learning environment
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to ensure consistent and supportive provision
Support the emotional wellbeing and social development of pupils with complex needs
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Experience supporting children or young people with behavioural challenges or SEMH needs (school-based experience desirable but not essential)
A calm, resilient, and adaptable approach to managing behaviour
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff
A genuine interest in inclusive education and supporting vulnerable learners
Relevant training or qualifications in behaviour support or special needs (e.g., Team Teach, MAPA, CACHE, Psychology background) are a plus
This Role May Suit:
Experienced Teaching Assistants, Learning Mentors, or Behaviour Support Workers
Graduates in Psychology, Education, Youth Work or similar fields
Individuals with lived or voluntary experience supporting children or young people with additional needs
Those looking to build a career in education, SEN, or therapeutic support roles
