Job Description

Specialist Learning Support Role – Primary SRB in Monmouth Zen Educate is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and proactive Specialist Support Assistant to join a Primary SRB in the Monmouth area. This role is ideal for someone with experience supporting children with profound autism, complex needs, and sensory sensitivities, helping them thrive in a structured and inclusive learning environment. As a Specialist Support Assistant in the SRB, you will work closely with children who may be non-verbal, have sensory processing challenges, or become overwhelmed in busy school settings. You will support their learning, communication, personal care, and emotional regulation using evidence-based strategies and personalised approaches. Key Responsibilities * Support children with profound autism and complex needs, including non-verbal learners * Assist with personal care needs, such as toileting, feeding, and hygiene, as required * Use visual timetables, Now and Next boards, PECS, and AAC devices to facilitate communication * Implement strategies to de-escalate situations when children feel anxious or overwhelmed * Promote independence, confidence, and social interaction within the SRB * Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and families to deliver tailored support plans * Record observations and provide feedback on progress, behaviour, engagement, and personal care What We’re Looking For * Experience working with children with profound autism and complex needs * Strong understanding of sensory processing, behaviour management, and de-escalation techniques * Experience supporting non-verbal children using visual aids, PECS, and AAC devices * Experience providing personal care and support for children with complex needs * Patience, empathy, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills * Professional, flexible, and team-oriented approach * Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain) and safeguarding knowledge * EWC Registration which we can help you obtain Desirable (but not essential) * Experience in a primary SRB or specialist education setting * Formal training in autism, SEND, or communication strategies Why Join Zen Educate?
